Silent Tapping

Updated: Jun 20

Silent Tapping is a simple yet powerful tool that you can turn to at any time, in almost any situation. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally drained, or simply in need of a quiet moment, silent tapping creates a gentle space for you to pause and reconnect with yourself. By using the familiar tapping points without speaking, you’re able to turn inward, reflect, and become fully present—free from external noise or expectation.

This practice not only helps you let go of distractions, but also supports emotional balance by calming your mind and body. Silent tapping can regulate your nervous system, bring a sense of grounding, and ease tension—making it especially helpful in moments of stress, uncertainty, or emotional buildup. It’s a discreet, self-soothing technique you can use in daily life to promote inner clarity, resilience, and peace.

EFT Tapping is a gentle, grounding practice that involves tapping on specific acupressure points on the body to help reduce stress, ease emotional discomfort, and support your overall wellbeing.

There are nine main tapping points used in this technique. Above, you'll find a diagram showing their locations, and below is a guide explaining each point and the tapping sequence.

Use two or three fingers to gently tap each point for a few seconds (around 5–7 seconds is enough). If a point feels tender or sore to touch, you can simply rest your fingers there with light pressure instead of tapping.

The Tapping Points (in order):

  1. Side of Hand – The soft, fleshy edge of your hand beneath the pinky finger (either hand is fine).

  1. Top of Head – The crown of your head, right in the center.

  1. Eyebrow – The start of your brow, above the bridge of your nose.

  1. Side of Eye – The bony area at the outer corner of your eye, where your upper and lower lids meet.

  1. Under Eye – Directly beneath the center of your eye, on the cheekbone.

  1. Under Nose – The area between your upper lip and your nose.

  1. Under Lip (Chin Point) – The crease between your lower lip and chin.

  1. Collarbone – Just below the collarbone, about an inch down and out from the U-shape at the base of your neck.

  1. Under Arm – About 10cm (4 inches) below your armpit. For women, it's often near where a bra strap sits; for men, roughly in line with the nipple.

Some of these points appear on both sides of the body. You can tap either side or both — it’s entirely up to you. EFT is just as effective whether you tap on one side or both. What matters most is choosing what feels comfortable and natural for you.

You might also notice a particular point that feels more calming or helpful — feel free to stay with that one a little longer if that’s what you need in the moment.

Creating Your Space

Choose a quiet spot where you feel safe and relaxed. Sit comfortably if you can, and consider switching off devices to minimise distractions. If sitting isn't possible, standing is perfectly fine.

You may wish to close your eyes, gaze softly at a still point in the room, or look outside. Do whatever helps you stay present.

Bring your awareness to your feet — feel the ground beneath them, whether you're on the floor or resting on a footstool. If it feels right, take a deep breath, but there’s no need to force it.

Beginning the Practice

Gently notice any emotion you’re currently feeling. Try to rate the intensity of that feeling on a scale from 0 to 10 — where 0 is no intensity, and 10 is very strong. There's no need to overthink it — just go with what comes up.

Start by tapping on the Side of the Hand point, then follow the sequence listed above. Move through each point gently and mindfully. You might do two or more full rounds — whatever feels supportive.

After two rounds, pause and check in with yourself. Without judgment, notice if anything has shifted. Has the intensity of your emotion changed?

If the intensity is still high, you can continue with more rounds until it drops below a 3 or until you begin to feel more grounded, calm, and safe.

EFT is a flexible, personal practice. Let it meet you where you are, and trust your inner guidance as you go.
